Lita Ford is as tough as nails. No, make that tough as diamonds, because she shines intensely bright, even while enduring the hell of a bitter divorce and an ongoing battle over her two young sons for well over a year now. She claims her greatest friend through all of this was her guitar, and the songs from her new record, “Living Like a Runaway,” reflect the raw emotion and cathartic outlet for her pain, as well as her lifelong experiences in the music industry.
Currently on tour with Poison and Def Leppard, we had the chance to catch up with the Black Widow a few hours before her brief, but killer performance at Darien Lake Performing Arts Center near Buffalo, NY. Lita appeared giddy with excitement as we discussed her collaboration with guitarist Gary Hoey and the amazing songs that were crafted for the new record. A little time was also dedicated to talking about a possible Runaways reunion, her new signature guitar, and her two Chihuahuas, who unfortunately couldn’t join us for the interview, but were enjoying a nap on the bus.
Lita Ford helped pave the way for many female musicians, and for those who dismissed her as a flash in the pan, well, they were DEAD WRONG. It’s been close to 40 years, and Ford’s new record is full of monster riffs and passionate lyrics. Lita has kicked adversity square in the ass, and is still kickin! I mean, come on, who has the balls to fuck with a chick in a black leather cat suit, wielding a blood red Warlock anyway? That said, let’s enjoy a chat with Juicy Lucy shall we?
We would like to thank Jon Freeman of Freeman Promotions for setting up the interview with Lita. For more information on Lita, her new CD “Living Like a Runaway”and tour, please go to: Lita Ford.
