Neal Schon (Journey) Interview

There are not many musicians who created more recognizable music through so many different outlets than Neil Schon. Some may think of him as simply Journey’s guitarist. However, besides his 14 studio albums with Journey, Neal has 7 solo efforts and has created music with bands like Bad English, Hardline, Jan Hammer, Soul SirkUS and Santana. What keeps Neal involved is his passion for the creative process, not only in music, but also in what he plays. Neal has been playing Paul Reed Smith guitars for a while now. During this year’s NAMM expo, Neal and Paul Reed Smith unveiled 2 brand new Neal Schon guitars called the NS-14 and NS-15. Of course, Neal couldn’t be more proud of the outcome of these beautiful instruments. In a very exclusive interview, we sat down with him to talk about how he was involved in the creative process of creating the signature six-strings. We also discussed his recent solo effort, “The Calling.” Neal also quipped about another project he is working on which will include new music as well.

What are his plans with Journey, solo projects, or anything else? Neal talks about anything and everything in this 20 minute plus interview. Why he hasn’t been garnered Rock and Roll Hall of Fame luminary status is beyond me? A year of working on this interview turned out to be everything and more. We couldn’t be happier to bring it to you right here on BackstageAxxess!
