It’s very rare that symphonic metal bands come through the Western New York area. However, Finnish band Nightwish made this rare club appearance recently and it was a perfect opportunity to talk to their dynamic vocalist Floor Jansen. As you know, Floor replaced previous vocalist Anette Olzon back in 2013, and since then, has really made her mark. The latest offering from Nightwish, “Endless Forms Most Beautiful,” truly shows her range and capabilities. It also proves that the band made the right choice for her to become their next singer.
In our discussion with Floor, we talk about her transformation from filing in for the remainder of the 2013 Imaginaerum tour, to becoming the permanent replacement. We talked about how the recording process went with the band and how much she got to contribute to the making of the disc. Floor is able to sing in many different styles including classical, operatic, symphonic, metal and rock to name a few. I asked her what is her favorite style to sing and why? In brief, we chatted about the upcoming DVD that will be filmed in Vancouver and what fans can expect from it.
