One of my favorite bands that has come out in the past few years is Long Beach, California’s Rival Sons. In their second stop in Buffalo over the last 5 plus months, the band simply put on another amazing performance. Before the show, we spoke to vocalist Jay Buchanan about the buzz the band gets from other acts citing them as their new favorite band. We also get into the band’s constant creative process and how they are following the old model of trying to make new music on a yearly cycle. Buchanan tells us his thoughts on why the band does this. We also dive into the last disc called “Great Western Valkyrie” and their video for the track “Keep on Swinging.”
We talked about the rigors of touring and how the European market accepts the band compared to the US market. We also talked about whether or not he has been able to immerse himself into the local scene of Buffalo during his recent visits. (Editor’s note: There was an announcement Buchanan couldn’t discuss but it was divulged on the band’s website on May 22nd that they will open up for Deep Purple on a handful of European dates.)
If you have never heard of Jay Buchanan or Rival Sons, it’s a matter of time before you will. Here’s a brief start…
We would like to thank Sarah Facciolo from Press Here Publicity for setting up the interview with Jay. For more information on Rival Sons, please go to: Rival Sons.
