Drowning Pool “Hellelujah”

Drowning Pool is a band that has suffered its share of adversity with the death of lead vocalist Dave Williams in 2002 and a series of replacement vocalists over the years. Yet somehow this band always comes back and perseveres.  With frontman Jason Moreno at the helm since 2012, Drowning Pool is back, bigger and badder than ever, with a brand new record, “Hellelujah.”

The new album is the first since 2013’s “Resilience” and is full of lightning fast riffs, killer bass grooves, and spine tingling vocals.  “Hellelujah” is heavy and dark and easily Drowning Pool’s most aggressive record to date. Kicking things off are the blood curdling screams of Moreno in the opening strains of “Push” and it is pedal to the metal all the way.  The guitars of C.J. Pierce are insane with one punishing riff after another.  The first single “By The Blood” is equally brutal with memorable lyrics that will have you shouting “I don’t care about one damn thing!” after just one listen.  The drums of Mike Luce absolutely pound their way through each track especially on “Drop” and “Goddamn Vultures.”  There are some interesting elements wound into the songs as well with the merciless “We Are the Devil” opening to an oldtime folk song  and “Meet The Bullet” beginning with a wicked lyrical twist on the children’s song “If You’re Happy and You Know  It.”

Drowning Pool has just upped the ante and given us a savage, brutal, and absolutely fantastic new record that metal fans have been waiting for. Hallelujah for “Hellelujah!”
