It’s been a long time coming but iconic ’80s rock vocalist Jack Russell is back in fine form with his new band Jack Russell’s Great White and their recently released full length debut album “He Saw It Comin’.” The new record is a great blend of that classic Great White sound, after all there is no mistaking Jack’s signature pipes, with a fresh feel and an interesting mix of songs.
The talent from this band is enormous with former Great White bassist Tony Montana on guitar trading off licks and solos with guitarist Robby Lochner and bassist Dan McNay with drummer Dicki Fliszar providing a solid backbone. The lead track “Sign of the Times” has a classic bluesy rock feel and “Crazy” has a terrific down and dirty groove. The lyrics are introspective as Jack sings of his own struggles and pain in “My Addiction” and it’s clear that sobriety has done wonders for him as he has never sounded better than on the ballad “Anything For You.” The title track is a bit different with the sounds and voices of kids sneaking into a room to play the guitar and drums before the keyboards and guitar riff kicks in. “Don’t Let Me Go” has a nice mid-tempo sing along feel before churning things into overdrive with “Blame It On The Night.” The album closer “Godspeed” is a nice surprise with an upbeat a capella type number complete with finger snapping and a “ba,ba, ba” chorus.
“He Saw It Comin'” is an outstanding rock and roll record with solid songwriting, skillfully done guitar work, and stellar vocals from one of the best in the business and is a must add to your collection.
