We tend to throw out the words icon or legend when describing some of our musical heroes. Well, any term we use for our next interviewee, I can assure you has been garnered and earned and every way. Rock and Roll is derived from the people who play blues. Unfortunately as time passes by, we are losing these storied treasures. One of the last ties to the original blues is Chicago’s own Buddy Guy. We sat down for a rare one on one interview with Buddy the day before he was to play a show at the Center for the Arts at University of Buffalo.
Buddy, recently just released his autobiography on June 1, 2012 titled “When I Left Home: My Story” on Da Capo Press. We talked about the book and some stories that were in it. One of these stories was his session with the late Jimi Hendrix. Buddy’s has received so many accolades and I asked him if he could pick one as the most cherished to him, which would that be? He answers that and talks about his thoughts on the late great Stevie Ray Vaughan. We also talk about his Blues club legends in Chicago and Buddy’s love of promoting the blues by passing it on to the younger generation.
